First Grade Hoe Down
After working on a unit about farmers and scarecrows, the first graders
had a real live Hoe Down at school. First they created and stuffed their
own scarecrows, then they showed of their square dancing. On the second
dancing round, they got to choose a different partner and Ellie chose
Katelyn.
Fall in the Smokies
Mid-October the Calhoun clan went on a getaway to the Great Smoky Mountains to meet up with Alan's parents. It proved to be a beautiful time of year for such a trip as the leaves were changing and it was the perfect weather. We ended up in a cabin in Bryson City--home of the Great Smoky Railroad. The view from our cabin was breathtaking.
The kids wore their costumes on a train ride to Charlie Brown's Great Pumpkin Patch where they were participated in a variety of fall activities--trick or treating, bobbing for apples, hayrides, inflatable slides, smores, and old time festival games. It was a magnificent weekend and we thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Some of the most special memories were of my girls curling up next to their grandparents to read to them. We were thoroughly entertained by the stories of Heidi Hecklebeck and the Littles.

Cross Point Child Dedication
After much unrest, we finally had Owen dedicated in church. We went back and forth between getting him baptized in Louisville where the girls were baptized and having him dedicated in our church. We finally settled on the child dedication so he can decide for himself when he is older if he wants to be baptized.
The life verse we decided on for him is
"And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him." Luke 2:40

We were asked to write a letter to Owen outlining traits we wanted to see in him when he grew up. Here are a few as they relate to this verse: This verse speaks some of the
things we pray for you as you grow up. We want you to be strong in body, but
also in faith and mind. We want you to be grounded in what is right and wrong
and display a wisdom with regards to the world. To me, wisdom also means having
a deep love for people and knowing that if you love God and love people well,
you will have a full life.
The final part of the verse is my
wish that the grace of God would be upon you. That He would find favor in all
you do and bless you abundantly—not with worldly possessions but with inherent
joy, peace, love and an unwavering faith.
Sherry also joined us for this special day. We were able to shower her with belated birthday love, dinner and cookie cake.

Bibelhauser Family reunion 2012
I took Ellie and Owen to Louisville last weekend for a family-packed weekend. Katelyn stayed home with her daddy so she could attend her first travel soccer tournament. We were blessed to spend the morning with my Grandma Libby, who was recently moved to a nursing home. It is a very nice place, but it still makes me sad to see her there. My heart is heavy thinking about her. That will have to be another post.
Our second stop was the Biblehauser reunion in Elizabethtown. It was at my cousin's working farm. They have their own pond, stocked with fish. The kids LOVED it. Together, they caught six with the help of their Grandma Karen.
Saturday night was my 20th high school reunion.. . . Enough said.
Sunday we were able to bless my cousin Liz with a Baby Shower for her upcoming little boy. It was great to spend the afternoon with the Coombs Family, including Grandma Libby. As you can tell, when we hit Louisville, we cram in as much family as can fit. I feel so blessed to have such a large family that shows me and my kids with love.

Go Lions!! Football hits the Den
The kids brought out their uniforms to cheer on the Lions last night. At the yearly Little Cheergirl night at CPA, girls kindergarten to 5th grade take the spotlight on the field and showcase a couple of cheers. My girls were no exception and exuded an exhilaration at being there with all of their friends. When Ellie first made it to the field, she gleamed and said, "All those people are up there watching us." She was so consumed by the crowd, that it took her the first quarter of the cheer to even realize they had started. Katelyn is now old enough to do stunts (unfortunately, my picture turned out blurry). She informed me before the game that she had a very important part, holding the other girl up.
And Owen. . . .he seems destined for football already. He wore his little football jersey and hung out on the field with his buddy Wright. They each had a football in hand as they watched the big kids run out. It gave me a little glimpse of what is to come and the friendship in store for them. Then the put away the footballs and proceeded to sweep the steps for a quarter with their pom poms.

Katelyn finally received her official uniform for her travel team last week. Notice that the club is affiliated with Chelsea and has the Chelsea logo. Of course, that merely means that we pay more in club dues to pay some money to some team in England that we truly have no connection to. Regardless, I think the uniform is quite sharp.
Precarious nap location
Owen took a nap while I was out running errands last weekend. This is what I found when I came home. Apparently, he did not want to nap in his room. The real dilemma was whether to wake him up or let him sleep. I'll let you guess what we decided.
For the record, he was not home alone, just escaped his room and the watchful eye of his daddy.

Soccer has Begun!
Katelyn and Ellie both had games this past weekend. Ellie has joined a new team that her friend Addison already plays for. Her team prevailed in a hard fought high scoring affair. In fact, it was so high scoring that I have no idea what the score was. Regardless, Ellie scored in her debut (one picture is of her scoring).
As for Katelyn, she now plays for a travel team. We were very nervous as the soccer teams around here are quite competitive and she had to try out for the team. At any rate, she made it (though I think some others on her old team should have also). Now, we have the privilege of spending most of our Sunday afternoons driving around Nashville to her games. At any rate, her team is 4-0 right now and she is playing quite well.

First Day of School
The kids kicked off the school year today at CPA.
Ellie was a little nervous about a new teacher and not sure if she'd have any friends there. Luckily, she seems to like her first grade teacher and knows most of her class. Unfortunately, her three best buds are in a different class, but she is adaptable and will make new friends quickly.
Katelyn has her first grade teacher, Mrs. Craig, who she adored. She said her day was awesome. She loves her teacher. Eight of the kids in her class were also in her class when she had Mrs. Craig the first time. She has a fair number of friends in her third grade class, so she is off to a great start.
Owen is returning to preschool. He has new teachers, but many of the same friends in his class. He particularly loves Wright and Audrey and is sad that his friend Nicklaus (he pronounced it Nicwas) has moved to the older class. But I am sure he will be a resilient two year old :)

City Swim Meet (Katelyn)
We headed back to the City Swim Meet on Saturday to watch Katelyn. Ellie came along to hang out with friends and Owen got to spend the day with Aunt Sherry (a blessing to us all). Katelyn's day was even crazier. If you haven't been to a City Swim Meet before, and I hadn't, there are tents set up EVERYWHERE and little kids running all around. I don't know how the coaches keep up with them all. It is like herding cats. Saturday was for 7/8 and 9/10 year olds and there are a ton of them. To add to the excitement, it poured down rain most of the day. So whereas on Friday, people stayed under their tents and hung out when they weren't racing, with the rain, everybody was inside. The Clerk of Course tents were a mud pit, so all the kids moved into the locker rooms. The girls thought is was great fun as all their friends were hanging around. We found a corner and claimed it for the Tigersharks and just operated out of there all day. Yes, I am embracing my new identity as a swim mom. I have to say it was a fun weekend and we enjoy spending time with a great group of parents.

City Swim Meet (Ellie)
Last weekend was a big weekend for the girls. They competed in their
first ever City Swim Meet and did fairly well. 6 and under was Friday
afternoon. Ellie swam the freestyle, backstroke and was on the freestyle
relay. It was pure craziness, but a lot of fun. Since she just turned
six in June, she is still considered 5 for swim which will be good for
her next summer. However, this summer, she is one of the younger ones.
Their relay came in 4th in City Meet. Not bad for her first year. She
made some great new friends (becoming attached to Celia) and seems to
love swimming. She even asked if she can do year-round. Not sure about
that yet.
